Alexander Dugin, also known as “Putin’s Brain,” is a Russian philosopher and political scientist. Perhaps best known for his book, “The Theory of a Multipolar World,” in which he elucidates his views on the present and forthcoming new world order, may be important reading for a deeper understanding of what is currently taking place outside of a national-centric, unipolar view primarily envisioned within the American psyche.

Putin and other authoritarian leaders around the world, including Trump (under the alleged tutelage of Putin), may be directly or inadvertently employing a vision of a new world order as that espoused by Alexander Dugin.

Although many will turn to the fascist playbook as the most likely source of inspiration for authoritarian rule, the truth may be more complex than the assumed Gordian Knots of plutocracy, oligarchy, technocracy, communism, or fascism.

With the world once again on the edge of self-annihilation, perhaps this quote from Tom Waits is apropos: “It’s the same with men as with horses and dogs, nothing wants to die.”
